Procession and Benediction
Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major

The Our Lady of America Center and the Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament have scheduled a Procession on the Feast of the Dedication of The Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Saturday, August 5th, 2006, with The Reverend Father Peter Damian Mary Fehlner, F.I. as the homilist. Father Peter Damian, a well-known Mariologist and articulate proponent of devotion to The Blessed Virgin Mary, has previously appeared on the Catholic television network EWTN. The Blessed Virgin Mary first appeared as Our Lady of America in this particular image to Sister Mary Ephrem (Mildred Neuzil) on September 26th, 1956 in the Chapel of the former Kneipp Springs convent near Rome City, Indiana. Monsignor Paul F. Leibold, on behalf of Cincinnati Archbishop Karl Alter, approved this revelation to Sister and granted the Imprimatur to the Image, Medal, as well as certain prayers of Our Lady of America, as requested through Sister.

This statue of Our Lady of America was originally made with the approval of Bishop William G. Connare of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and exhibited for more than thirty (30) years by the Discalced Carmelite Sisters of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. This particular image was recently given to the Our Lady of America Center at Fostoria, Ohio. The same statue visited the Diocese of Cheyenne, Wyoming this immediate past February 11th-19th for a novena and Cathedral procession.
